David Bundy is a professional photographer living in Montgomery, AL. He has been shooting as a photojournalist since 1988 and has used that experience combined with a vision of dark, minimally lit subjects to create a style that is realistic and emotional in his personal work. His style tends to be monochromatic, even when color is used.
He draws from the styles of several photographers, but his primary influences in portraiture are Herb Ritts and Anton Corbijn, a famed photographer of musicians. David sees a connection between music and photography. With a certain light and tonality in a composition, an image can almost be heard. Some days he may see classical other days it may be folksy or jazz.
"I like to photograph people as basic and as natural as they are. Lines, scars, and even their jewelry may tell a story. It becomes an inner portrait , as well as an outer portrait.
"My portaits often begin with me looking for the spirit of an individual. A certain look they may display when their guard is down, maybe for just a second, can reveal the muse. My aim is to find this spirit in my subject and show it to them in my work. Letting them know I saw something genuine in them and celebrated it with an image makes everyone leave with a warm, special feeling about the experience. I say, "Here is how I see you."
